Attention to UIUC Students Taking CEE 364 Class

If you want to use one of those Windows NT computers in EWS lab to run CAST, please read additional installation notes here.

Important Notes

  • If you ever install a previous version of CAST, please remove all previous installed files before you install the new one.
  • Once the installation is complete, it is highly recommended that you restart your computer before trying to run CAST.

To install CAST downloaded from this site:

  • Create a folder or directory called C:\CAST and store the downloaded file called CAST.ZIP. If the drive where the directory resides is other than C:, change the appropriate drive letter for C:.
  • Decompress CAST.ZIP using your extraction program (e.g., WinZip) to the directory you created in the previous step.
  • Select Run from the Start menu of your Windows task bar.
  • From the Open combo box in the Run dialog box, type in:
    C:\CAST\CSTSetup
  • Click OK button in the Run dialog box to start the installation.
  • Respond to the prompts during installation.


To install CAST from floppy disks:

  • Insert the floppy disk labeled "CAST Disk 1" into your floppy drive.
  • Select Run from the Start menu of Windows operating system.
  • From the Open combo box in the Run dialog box, type in:
    A:\Setup
    If your floppy disk is in a drive other than A:, change the appropriate drive letter for A:.
  • Click OK button in the Run dialog box to start the installation.
  • Respond to the prompts during installation.


Note that during the installation, the Setup program will:

  • Copy system files to the folder called Windows or Winnt.
  • Copy program and support files to the folder or directory that you specify.
  • Copy sample data files to a subfolder called Examples.
  • Add CAST to the Start menu of Windows operating system.
